Fish Stick Sandwich with Homemade Tartar Sauce

Most of us have grown up eating fish sticks which is thanks to good old Bob Kinney who came up with the idea of the humble fish stick back in the 1950s.

Fish Stick sandwiches have now become popular, in particular the FLT or fish, lettuce and tomato sandwich.

My FLT recipe adds some homemade tartar sauce to this classic sandwich for a real treat.

It’s super quick to make the tartar sauce. All you need are some pickled gherkins, some capers, plus some mayo and a few sprigs of parsley.

Lets now take a look at how to put together your FLT with generous toppings of homemade tartar sauce.

How to Make Your Fish Stick Sandwich

First of all heat up the fish sticks whichever way you prefer. While they are heating up we’ll make the tartar sauce.

Make the tartar sauce

Finely chop a small handfull of pickled gherkins, place in a small dish and add mayo and some capers if you have them.

I also have added some finely chopped parsley to my sauce. The parsley and capers are optional though.

Now squeeze a few drops of lemon, season with pepper and mix all the ingredients together to complete the sauce.

Slice 2 medium sized tomatos into 4 slices each and layer the lettuce and tomato onto your bread rolls of choice.

Now take the pre heated fish sticks and layer 3 sticks onto to each roll.

Finally layer as much tartar sauce on top of the fish sticks as you like.

As you can see from the picture I really like my sandwich with a lot of tartar sauce.

Add the remaining bread roll lid and your ready to serve.

The sauce will oooze out while eating so best to make sure you have a napkin to hand.
