Chorizo Sandwich Mexican Torta Style
Chorizo and avocado, it doesn’t come much more Mexican than that! And that’s what we’re going to make today, a good old classic Mexican chorizo sandwich in a torta style bread roll.
A quick word about chorizo. The Mexican variety differs from the Spanish in that it has chilli pepper and vinegar alongside its pork base.
Mexican chorizo is also made using fresh pork, while Spanish chorizo uses smoked pork.
You can of course use any type of chorizo you can get hold of, but it’s best to stick to one type, rather than mix them up.
How to Make a Chorizo Sandwich Mexican Torta Style
Cut the chorizo into small chunks ready for lightly frying in a medium hot pan. You’ll need around 3.5 oz or 100 grams for one large torta roll.
You don’t need to add any oil to the non stick pan as the chorizo contains plenty already.
Its just a matter of cooking for a minute or 2 until you see the oils released from the chorizo. This cookig process enhances the flavors.
While the chorizo is cooking in the pan, take one medium sized avocado and separate into fairy large chunks.
You don’t want to mash the avocado up too much here. Take a look at the prepared avocado in the picture above as a guide. Add a splash of fresh lime to taste.
Now its time to place the cooked chorizo onto your bread torta style roll and add some grated cheese of your choice sprinkled on top.
Place under the grill until the cheese has melted, then transfer onto a serving plate.
Spread the chunky avocado pieces onto the remaining half bread roll.
Now place the 2 halves togther to complete this delicious authentic Mexican sandwich.
Finally, cut the torta style roll in half and serve.

Ingredients
- Torta style bread roll
- 3.5 oz chorizo – per roll
- Medium sized avocado
- Fresh lime
- Grated cheese of your choice
Instructions
- Cut the chorizo into small chunks
- Cook the chorizo for up to 2 minutes on a medium heat
- Cut a medium avocado into chunks
- Add fresh lime juice to avocado
- Pile coooked chorizo onto one side of cut bread torta
- Add grated cheese
- Place under grill until cheese has melted
- Spread avocado onto other torta roll half
- Remove chorizo and cheese half from grill
- Combine both halves of the torta bread roll and cut into 2
- Serve
