BLT Sandwich with Avocado

It’s one of the most popular sandwiches for many years. The good old BLT has stood the test of time having originated in Chicago dating back to the 1900’s.

Today I’m going to add to this classic sandwich and make a BLT sandwich with avocado. Oh yeah, avocado lovers get ready to enjoy it!

I’ve used streaky bacon for my sandwich but you can use any cut of bacon you prefer.

You’ll need a medium sized avocado, plus a couples of sprigs of parsley, but if you haven’t any parsley to hand don’t worry.

It’s a super quick and easy sandwich to make in under 5 minutes so let’s get right to it and make that BLT sandwich.

How to Make a BLT with Avocado Sandwich

First of all, cook your bacon whichever way you like, grill or fry it doesn’t matter. Place the cooked bacon to one side.

Slice a medium sized tomato into around 4 slices for one sandwich. You can use a beefsteak tomato as well if you have one in the refrigerator.

To make the avocado mix, cut the avocado in half, removing the pit and skin. Now mash using a fork one half of the avocado into a small dish, add lemon, olive oil and season to taste.

Finely chop the parsley and gently fold into the avocado mix using a fork or spoon.

Spread the avocado mix onto one side of the sliced bread. Layer the sliced tomatoes on top, followed by the bacon slices.

Take the second half of the avocado and slice into around 4 to 5 thin slices. Place the avocado slices onto the other slice of bread and top with crunchy lettuce.

You’re now ready to carefully place the second bread slice onto the top of the bacon topped bread slice to complete the sandwich.

Place the BLT onto a plate and cut into halves and serve.

  • Bread of your choice – 2 slices
  • Streaky bacon – 3 slices
  • Lettuce
  • Sliced tomato
  • Avocado
  • Lemon juice
  • Fresh parsley
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon and leave to one side.
  2. Slice bread.
  3. Cut avocado in half.
  4. Mix half of avocado in small bowl.
  5. Add olive oil, lemon to avocado mix.
  6. Season mix to taste
  7. Chop parsely.
  8. Add parsley to avocado mix.
  9. Spread avocado mix onto one side of bread.
  10. Add tomato and bacon slices.
  11. Slice 2nd avocado half.
  12. Place avocado slices onto 2nd bread slice.
  13. Add lettuce to avocado sliced side.
  14. Carefully top bacon sided bread with lettuce sided bread to complete.
  15. Serve.
